Surrey police investigating shots fired, attempted arson and possible extortion

The suspects used a stolen Kia.

The Surrey RCMP are looking into a pair of incidents believed to be connected.

The first occurred early on Saturday, Aug. 10. Police were called to a residence near the intersection of 88 Avenue and 192 Street around 3:11 a.m. after reports of gunshots.

When police arrived, they not only found evidence of a shooting but also of an attempted arson.

No one was injured in the incident, states the RCMP.

On Sunday, Aug. 11, someone associated with that residence received a demand for money.

"(This) is consistent with extortions targeting the South Asian community. Surrey RCMP believes this incident may be linked to the extortion series," Mounties say in a press release.

Images are now being released of two potential suspects and a car that was involved.

"The vehicle, a Kia Rio 5, was recovered on Aug. 12, 2024, and investigators have determined it was stolen from a business complex in Newton," notes the RCMP.

Any witnesses or anyone with information is asked to call the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.

Anyone who wants to stay anonymous can do so through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
