A father to two young girls has been identified as a driver killed during a head-on collision in Surrey.
On July 16 at 8:10 p.m., two transport trucks collided on Highway 17 and 116 Avenue.
A 41-year-old man was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. On July 22, police alerted the public that the driver had succumbed to his injuries.
The driver of the other transport truck, 44, and a passenger, 46, were also taken to the hospital but were released shortly after.
Sandeep Singh Cheema has been identified as the driver killed in the crash.
Family member Kiran Singh created a GoFundMe for Cheema.
"As some of you may know, my brother-in-law Sandeep Cheema has passed away after a horrific accident,” says Singh.
Cheema is being remembered as a beloved father and husband.
"When Sandeep left home for work, he told his daughters... and his wife Manjeet that he would be back. But that would not be the case,” says Singh. “While Sandeep might be gone, his infectious spirit and his love for life are survived by his daughters and his wife."
The fundraising page notes his organs have been donated "so someone else’s life can be saved."
The family has been living in Surrey since 2012. The money raised from the fundraiser will go toward the family.
Surrey RCMP's criminal collision investigation team is still investigating the fatality.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family and friends at this time,” says Sgt. Tammy Lobb.
After the crash on July 16, police said speed may have been a factor but the circumstances of the collision have not yet been determined.
