Wayfinding, in the modern usage, refers primarily to how people orient themselves in urban spaces; however, wayfinding is an ancient art used by indigenous peoples to navigate uncharted waters and unmarked routes by using all the knowledge, imagination and tools available to them.

Local artists Diane Buchanan, Jane Dunfield, Coral Louie and Reidun van Kervel  all come from differing backgrounds, with their own temperaments and individual views. Despite their differences, the four share a recognition that art, in many forms, permeates all aspects of their lives.

The creative process often leads into uncharted waters, and like the ancient wayfinders, artists are led to leave marks on the trail and explore new paths. There are over 50 paintings showing at Artisan Square over the next 5 weekends; and a striking canvas floorcloth (7x12ft) on display, painted by the foursome over an intense 5 week period.

There is an Artists’ Reception Sat.  Sept. 17, 2016.  4 – 7pm at the Gallery, and hosted by  the Bowen Island Arts Council.   Refreshments will be served and wine is by donation.

The Wayfinders  runs Sept .16 – Oct. 16,  2016. at the Gallery at Artisan Square
