‘Little Big Man’ crowned Bowen's Dog of the Year

This year's pup is a popular sight around town

Pasquale with his human Darryl.

Pasquale aka “Peanut” (and many other terms of endearment) was the outright winner of the 2024 Dog of the Year competition.

He is an eight-year old Chihuahua and Jack Russell cross (best guess) who has had two other homes before coming to live with his current caregiver.

Darryl, Pasquale’s human, told us “He is the best little big man the island has ever seen.”

You can often see Pasquale at the Beer and Wine Store on Friday evenings where he greets people with a friendly gaze and a wag of his tail. Pasquale is friends with most humans, dogs, cats, little kids, and the odd skunk. He’s also rumoured to be pals with the elusive cougar, but that is yet to be confirmed.

He spreads happiness and joy wherever his little legs take him. He is also very proficient in the snuggling department.

Congratulations Little Big Man! The island community loves you.

An honourable mention goes to Shay and her human Emily. The two dogs were neck and neck for most of the poll with Pasquale just pulling ahead in the last few hours. Shay is a beautiful Golden Retriever with a very special job to do as Emily’s certified service dog.

And to all the others that took part in the competition: Thank you for being such great sports! The 2025 competition will be here sooner than you think, so we hope to see you all again next year.
