TransLink offering free transit across Metro Vancouver on New Year's Eve

TransLink has partnered with a corporate sponsor to recoup costs of extra transit services.

TransLink is offering free transit on New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, 2024.

TransLink will offer free transit across all services on New Year's Eve. 

The transportation authority will have complimentary rides from 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024, until 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 1. 

Fare gates will remain open during these hours and customers aren't required to tap their Compass Cards or use other payment methods. TransLink advises customers with trips beginning "before 5 p.m. to tap out as normal to ensure they’re charged the correct fare."

For the first time, TransLink has partnered with a sponsor, Captain Morgan, to rescue costs of extra transit services on New Year's Eve. 

Riders will see the Captain Morgan logo on Compass Vending Machines, Compass Validators, platform screens, and other digital products across TransLink's network leading up to New Year’s Eve.

Metro Vancouver transit is free on New Year's Eve 

New Year’s Eve (Dec. 31) service details:

  • Buses will operate on an extended weekday schedule, with 52 additional buses throughout the system and extra service on select routes.
  • SkyTrain service will operate on an extended weekday schedule.
    • Last train from Waterfront to King George: 2:16 a.m.
    • Last train from Waterfront to Lougheed Town Centre: 2:11 a.m.
    • Last train from Waterfront to Production Way–University: 1:40 a.m.
    • Last train from VCC–Clark to Lafarge Lake–Douglas: 2:22 a.m. (until 2:30 a.m. to Lougheed Town Centre only)
    • Last train from Waterfront to YVR–Airport: 2:05 a.m.
    • Last train from Waterfront to Richmond–Brighouse: 2:15 a.m.
  • SeaBus will be running on an extended weekday schedule, with service every 15 minutes until 1:22 a.m. and every 30 minutes until the last sailing from Waterfront Station at 2:22 a.m.
  • NightBus will continue operating after SkyTrain and SeaBus service ends.
    • The NightBus runs throughout the night on key routes in Vancouver, Richmond, North Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Port Moody, New Westminster, and Surrey.
  • West Coast Express will be operating on a weekday schedule.
    • The 5:30 and 6:20 p.m. trains leaving Waterfront Station will be free to customers. 

The TransLink Customer Service Centre, Access Transit Customer Care Office, and Lost Property Office will be open during regular weekday hours on Dec. 31.
