Metro Vancouver weekend weather: Sunshine, warm temps to follow storm

Maybe a rainbow is in the cards, too!

The Metro Vancouver weather forecast includes more showery, dreary conditions as a system off Vancouver Island brings rain to the region on March 28, 2025.

The sun is expected to shine in the Lower Mainland this weekend, although it might not last long.

Environment Canada meteorologist Colin Fong says a showery pattern commenced on Wednesday, March 26, following sunshine and temperatures several degrees above the seasonal average on Tuesday.

Friday's forecast includes more wet weather, with a few scattered showers throughout the day and light wind gusting up to 20 km/h.

"The weather system isn't moving over B.C. but is hanging around west of Vancouver Island," he notes. "It is weakening, but it will bring showers."

Fong says another "shot of rain" is possible Saturday morning and into the early afternoon, although it should begin to taper off after. A ridge of high pressure will begin to build Saturday evening, creating drier and warmer conditions heading into Sunday.

"It could be a really beautiful Sunday," he comments, noting that locals may see "filtered sunshine" through the clouds throughout the day.

"The biggest thing is a daytime high of 16 C," he says, noting that the seasonal average is around 13 C. However, it would need to rise a few more degrees to challenge the record.

Unfortunately, Sunday is expected to be a "one day wonder for warm temperatures" as the ridge of high pressure breaks down and rain returns to the region on Monday, explains Fong.

"We aren't looking at anything significant. Mostly dreary grey, showery conditions on Monday."

Tuesday may see some residual showers (a 30 per cent chance) before an organized rainstorm swings from the north on Wednesday and continues to bring moisture through Thursday.

Fong adds that there is also a potential for snow on the mountains at the highest elevations as the system moves across the region.

Heading into the following weekend, there is a potential for more sunny weather as the wet weather dissipates. Fong says it may even last several days, rather than one or one-and-a-half (as it has for the past few weeks).
