Firefighters from communities across the province have been arriving in Kelowna to help defend properties from wildfires burning in the area.
BC Wildfire Service posted a video to its social media accounts, showing a number of structure protection resources gathering in West Kelowna on Saturday before heading out to respond to incidents across the Grouse Complex. This complex includes the McDougall Creek wildfire, the Walroy Lake wildfire burning near Glenmore, and the Clarke Creek wildfire on the west side of Lake Country.
“Structure protection personnel, engines, water tenders and trailers from communities across the province have been arriving throughout the day, along with additional BCWS crews, to support structure protection and defence efforts,” BCWS said in its post.
The video shows trucks from Chilliwack, Comox, White Rock and Delta, among other communities.
The wildfire service said its response efforts are being coordinated with West Kelowna Fire Rescue, Kelowna Fire Department, Lake Country Fire Rescue and the Regional District of Central Okanagan.
BCWS said structure protection involves setting up equipment for the protection of property
“Across the complex, responder safety and protection of critical infrastructure, life and property continue to be the priority for all agencies,” BCWS said.
