Evening ferries between the Island and mainland have been cancelled due to a storm expected to bring high winds and heavy rain to the B.C. coast Tuesday evening.
The final sailings between Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen will be the 5 p.m departures leaving from both terminals.
Scheduled 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. sailings departing from both Swartz Bay and Tsawwassen are cancelled due to the “deteriorating weather forecast” for high winds in the Strait of Georgia, B.C. Ferries said on its website.
Environment Canada is forecasting winds gusting up to 100 kilometres per hour from Tuesday afternoon to late Wednesday as a low-pressure system hits about 400 kilometres southwest of the Island.
The final sailing between Departure Bay and Horseshoe Bay leaves Departure Bay at 5:55 p.m. Two later sailings at 8:45 p.m from Departure Bay and 10:10 p.m from Horseshoe Bay have been cancelled.
On the Duke Point to Tsawwassen route, the last sailings will leave both terminals at 5:45 p.m. Departures at 8:15 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. from both terminals have been cancelled.
Sailings to and from Galiano Island after 5:15 p.m. are also at risk of cancellation, B.C. Ferries said.
Anyone with a reservation on a cancelled sailing will be contacted by B.C. Ferries’ customer service centre to let them know if the booking can be accommodated on another sailing or if it needs to be cancelled for a refund.
For up-to-date information on sailings and cancellations, B.C. Ferries recommends checking its X account.
