Robert Belding was last seen Sunday, Oct. 20, near the Coquitlam River during the atmospheric river storm.

A body was reportedly found in the Coquitlam River Friday, Oct. 25, near the location of where 59-year-old Robert Belding was last seen on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Belding's daughter Jessica told Glacier Media that the body is "likely him based on location as it was near where he went missing."

RCMP have yet to confirm the identity of the body, explaining that the missing person's case remains "active and ongoing."

Coquitlam Search and Rescue (SAR) were seen Friday morning at Town Centre Park in the continued search for Belding.

On Thursday, Oct. 25, SAR wrote in a social media post that air, ground, K9 and drone crews were utilized, and neighbouring SAR teams were called in to help.

Belding was walking a dog close to Pipeline Road and Galette Avenue. The dog was found at Shaughnessy Street and David Avenue, according to a social media post.

A witness reported seeing Belding fall into the Coquitlam River as he tried to rescue a dog, and was "immediately swept away," Coquitlam SAR spokesperson Ian MacDonald said Wednesday, Oct. 23.

Coquitlam was one of the hardest-hit areas as an atmospheric river weather system rolled over southern B.C. last weekend, dumping more than 250 mm of rain on the Metro Vancouver community.
