A Vancouver lawyer facing multiple charges — including assaulting police officers — has been released on bail pending further court appearances.

Jean-Marc Francois Hebert, 61, appeared before Vancouver Provincial Court Judge James Sutherland via video April 17 for a bail hearing, the contents of which are covered by a publication ban.

Photos from when Hebert practiced as a personal injury lawyer are of a clean-shaven professional with short-trimmed hair. The Hebert on video was a slumped man with shaggy hair and a voluminous beard.

Herbert is charged with allegedly uttering a threat to one police officer and resisting another April 1. He is also charged with assaulting one of those officers and endangering her life.

In connection with a March 21, 2023 incident, Hebert is charged with assaulting a man and with committing mischief in interfering with the use of a Yaletown storage facility.

He is also charged with assaulting a police officer that day.

As a result of Aug. 5, 2023 incidents, he is charged with fraudulently obtaining food from Bonta Italian Restaurant on Vancouver’s Davie Street and also with assaulting a woman.

Hebert was earlier released on bail Aug. 18, 2024 with conditions he stay away from the restaurant, the storage facility and those involved in those incidents.

Hebert’s firm website is inactive.

The Law Society of BC lawyer search page said Hebert’s practice has been in the hands of a custodian since Jan. 13, 2022. A custodian is a practicing lawyer appointed by B.C. Supreme Court order to manage or to wind up a legal practice.
