Ontario Provincial Police say an extended closure of Highway 11 in the Orillia area is expected after a multi-vehicle crash in snowy conditions earlier today.

Police say all lanes of the highway are closed between Old Barrie and Coldwater roads.

It wasn't immediately clear how many people may have been injured in the crash.

OPP is urging drivers to avoid the area and give space to emergency vehicles responding to the call.

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for Orillia and surrounding areas, saying lake effect snow can cause sudden changes in visibility on the roads.

The agency says conditions are expected to improve Friday evening.
