BC Ferries has cancelled dozens of Sunshine Coast sailings between Sept. 4 and Oct. 9 as it shuffles ferries to cover the Coastal Renaissance's continued absence on the Tsawwassen-Duke Point route. Most of the cancellations are for the evening commuter run.
As the Queen of Alberni – usually on the Horseshoe Bay-Departure Bay route, but which does the commuter "L" run to the Coast – is sailing in place of the Coastal Rennaisance to meet "contractually required sailings."
BC Ferries will contact people with reservations on now cancelled sailings to offer alternate sailings, or should bookings need to be cancelled, the trips refunded and vouchers for free travel at another time issued, said an Aug. 31 press release.
"Due to the integrated nature of the ferries system, and BC Ferries’ obligation to complete a specific number of sailings under the Coastal Ferry Services contract, when a vessel becomes unavailable to sail for an extended period of time, it creates a ripple affect as there are no spare vessels available," said the release. "Scheduling changes are specifically designed to impact the fewest customers on the smallest number of routes possible."
The cancelled sailings on the Sunshine Coast route are:
- Sept. 10 – 3:20 p.m. leaving Horseshoe Bay; 4:45 p.m. leaving Langdale
- Sept. 11 to Sept. 15 – 5:30 p.m. leaving Horseshoe Bay
- Sept. 17 – 3:20 p.m. leaving Horseshoe Bay and 4:45 p.m. leaving Langdale
- Sept. 18 to Sept. 22 – 5:30 p.m. leaving Horseshoe Bay
- Sept. 24 – 3:20 p.m. leaving Horseshoe Bay and 4:45 leaving Langdale
- Sept. 25 to 29 – 5:30 p.m. leaving Horseshoe Bay
