Dear Editor.

When Carlos and I were looking around BC for a place to establish our business Cocoa West Chocolatier, we went to many a small town. We had a list of criteria that we wanted the town to have, and in some cases to not have. We wanted to establish our business and create a life for ourselves in this new community.
One of those things on our list was a Veterinary Clinic.
It was important to us that our cats could have care when and where they needed it, without having to take them to Vancouver. I have never been more relieved to have a Vet here on Bowen than this winter when our affectionate, friendly and wandering cat, got into the wrong yard wanting to play with the wrong dogs.
This brief encounter with the dogs resulted in a two time near death experience. Once in the jaws of the dogs, and a second time when we thought we would have to put him down from his injuries. Zipper spent many days in the care of the clinic and improved enough to come home. however his front left limb, never recovered and ultimately had to be amputated.
If you saw last week’s ‘Pet of The Week’ you would have met Dr. Zipper. He has many friends and fans in Artisan Square and on Bowen Island, and you’ll be pleased to know he is doing well.
My point here is, that I am grateful to have a Veterinary Clinic here on island. Without that clinic, there would be no Cocoa West Chocolatier on Bowen. Imagine that! Be sure to thank Dr. Alistair Westcott next time you see him, for establishing and persevering with a Veterinary Clinic here on island.

Sincerely,
Joanne Mogridge
