Heavy rain is expected in Vancouver starting today, Oct. 27 and running through Thursday, Oct. 28.

Metro Vancouver communities are going to be a bit more damp than usual over the next 24 hours.

Environment Canada has upgraded its forecast over Wednesday, Oct. 27 and Thursday, Oct. 28 to a weather warning. The focus is on West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Surrey and Langley. The Fraser Valley is also included.

Those communities could get hit with up to 70 mm of rain by Thursday afternoon, while other Lower Mainland areas will still be hit with significant rain.

"A moisture-laden system with an atmospheric river pattern will bring heavy rain to parts of Metro Vancouver, and the Fraser Valley starting tonight and continuing on Thursday. Rainfall amounts of 50 to 70 mm are expected before the rain eases on Thursday evening," states Environment Canada.

The system will then move east to bother the interior.

Meteorologists are warning that the downpours could cause flash floods and pooling on roads, creating unsafe driving conditions.

"The heaviest rain is expected late overnight tonight through Thursday afternoon," notes the federal agency.

Following Thursday's rain, weather in Metro Vancouver should actually be nice for a few days, with sunny skies expected over the weekend.
