Paying bus fares just got a little easier.
Translink has announced that all buses and fare gates in Metro Vancouver are now equipped to take Interac Debit.
"TransLink, Interac, Moneris, and Cubic Transportation Systems upgraded more than 5,000 Compass Readers throughout TransLink’s system to make transit payments more convenient," explains TransLink in a press release.
People will be able to use their debit cards or digital wallets at any Compass Reader (as long as they use the Canadian Interac system). That includes all buses and the fare gates for the SkyTrain and SeaBus.
The change makes Metro Vancouver's transit system the first in Canada to fully integrate contactless debit transactions. It also follows recent surveys that show two-thirds of Canadians wanted to see a contactless debit option integrated.
