A new classroom has been added to BICS.

The extra space is needed to accommodate a growth in enrolment now that BICS will be offering full-day kindergarten kids. How the school reconfigures its classroom plans, and what grade the new structure will house, is up to the school itself.

The school district expects the building to be a permanent fixture on the school grounds. It is now at the edge of the playground and can accommodate 30 students.

The province announced in June that it will provide 665 classrooms around the province as part of its goal to provide full-day kindergarten to all B.C. kids by this September, when the education ministry expects about 40,000 five-year-olds to be enrolled in the program.

All new structures for the program are being built by Shelter Industries of Aldergrove. The material used for the portable is not from trees cut down when the AT field was built. Some of that wood has been used to build a large raven sculpture that overlooks the field and the rest has been stored for a future BICS building project.
