Update 8 p.m.: power is back across the island.
BC Hydro says it anticipates all Bowen Island homes will have power restored Wednesday evening.
More than 300 Bowen Island homes in the Sealeigh Park-Bowen Bay-Bluewater area were still without power as of 7:15 p.m. after a windstorm knocked out power just after midnight Wednesday morning.
Winds of over 90 km/hr knocked out power to tens of thousands of people across the Lower Mainland overnight.
Islanders took to Facebook, wondering why several smaller outages on-island were addressed before the big one on the west side.
“Our crews prioritize outages that are a threat to public safety, and since we had reports of downed lines on Bowen earlier today those were likely fixed first,” said BC Hydro spokesperson Susie Rieder by email Wednesday night.
As of 7:15 p.m., the outage map estimated crews would arrive at west side outage site by 7:45 p.m.
