The newly formed Bowen Island Accommodation Association (BIAA) held its first meeting on Tuesday, July 16.
Hosting the event was acting president Jan Stevens, owner and operator of the waterfront cottage Lazy Bowen Hideaway and Petite Suite located just off Eagle Cliff Road.
The group of business owners invites all owners and operators of B&Bs, vacation rentals, retreats and other accommodations to come together and join BIAA with the aim to develop Bowen Island as the "best getaway destination,"according to Stevens.
Approximately 10 owners of vacation rental properties were in attendance with two guest speakers, discussing Tourism BC and bylaw updates.
A photography presentation focused on how to maximize photos to increase bookings.
Suggested topics for future meetings include fundraising for future marketing opportunities, how to improve the off season traffic while working together to promote local businesses, gift shops and spa services, to name a few.
"We play an important role in the economic well-being of Bowen Island by providing accommodation for visitors. Whether our guests are dining at the local restaurants, buying gifts or groceries,enjoying a spa service or kayaking, their tourism dollars supportother small businesses on the island," Stevens said.
"In addition, wemaintain our properties by purchasing local services from cleaners, gardeners, handy men, roofers, chimney sweeps,window washers and contractors. As a group, we positively contribute to Bowen in many ways," she added.
