It’s time to gather those faulty electronics, broken appliances, and torn clothes, and bring them to the talented team of volunteer fixers at the Fall Fix-it Fair.
At this community event of reuse and repair presented by the Regenerative Bowen Island Society, we have a few new services being offered with a community spin on the do-it-yourself spirit.
Kori will be on hand restringing acoustic, electric and classical musical instruments, including guitars, violins, violas, banjos, ukuleles, and most mandolins. Please bring your own strings, and note that this service is only being offered from 2 to 3 pm.
Long time member of the Fix-it Fair team Chris Maki will be replacing burnt out exterior vehicle lights, something he’s noticed there’s a few of on the island. Check your brake lights, turn signals, headlamps, buy a replacement bulb, and come on down and we’ll get your car safer for the dark season ahead.
And, Marysia McGilvray is back offering jewelry repair for earrings, necklaces and bracelets.
The rest of the team is bringing their expertise in sewing, darning, electronics, small appliances, and other handy skills to troubleshoot and do our best to fix whatever broken things you bring in. Some of the typical and not so typical items that have been repaired at past events include toasters, toys, sweaters, microscopes, electric fireplaces, and pesky stuck zippers.
The Fix-It Fair is happening on Saturday, November 16 from 12 to 3 pm at Cates Hill Chapel, at 661 Carter Road. Bring your own mug to enjoy a hot cup of tea, coffee, or hot chocolate and help make this a zero-waste event.
It’s a free event and donations to cover lunch for the Fix-It team and venue rental costs are kindly accepted. Hope to see you and your repair worthy things there!
