Bowen Island Community School is asking students to reflect on the question: how do we remember?
All students will attend a respectful, whole-school assembly on Friday, November 9 in the BICS gym as well as participating in activities inside and outside of the classroom in the week leading up to Remembrance Day.
BICS student council members are volunteering to hand sew poppies for all the assembly’s special guests as well as hand-making the BICS wreath, which will be at the school assembly as well as being placed at the cenotaph at the community service on November 11.
As an act of respect and community service, BICS intermediate students will be learning about the history of the names on the Snug Cove cenotaph and as part of a beautification and remembrance project, they are planting daffodil bulbs in the Bowen Island Memorial Garden as well as cleaning plaques in the Memorial Garden and picking up any litter so that it will be clean and welcoming for people visiting the garden before and after the Remembrance Day service.
At BICS we remember, recognize and thank all the men and women who have in the past, and who continue to this day, to serve in our Canadian military.
