There have now been 207,716 cases of the coronavirus (COVID-19) in B.C. to date, after health officials announced 596 new cases Thursday (Nov. 4).
Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry reports that there have been 46 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 222 in the Fraser Health region, 54 in the Island Health region, 115 in the Interior Health region, 159 in the Northern Health Region and no new cases from people who reside outside of Canada.
There are currently 4,451 active cases of COVID-19 in the province, and 200,749 people who tested positive have recovered. Of the active cases, 438 individuals are in hospital and 130 are in intensive care.
There have been eight new COVID-19 related deaths, for a total of 2,200 deaths in the province. There were three deaths in the Fraser Health region, two in Vancouver Coastal Health, and three in the Northern Health Region.
From Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, people not fully vaccinated accounted for 64.5 per cent of cases and from Oct. 20 to Nov. 2 they accounted for 71.8 per cent of hospitalizations.
The province continues to drive home the message to British Columbians about the importance of getting the COVID-19 vaccine, as more data shows the protection the vaccines provide.
Health Minister Adrian Dix and Henry presented the latest epidemiological modelling data Thursday afternoon, showing new COVID-19 cases in B.C. have been slowly but steadily decreasing in recent weeks.
Since Dec. 2020, the Province has administered 8,295,846 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines.
