So, how serious are you about buying a house? Serious enough to think about living along the water, in a cozy enclave that could be Bilbo Baggins, the Hobbit’s home?
The price is enticing for a float home located on River Road in Ladner along the Fraser River. It’s listed for only $259,000, (with yearly taxes at $240) has a large deck with a view of the North Shore Mountains and, as the Real Estate Weekly describes, “a passing parade of wildlife … ducks, herons, seals and otters.
“The original-owner was a genius with wood … hand-carved outdoor shingles and barn wood kitchen cupboards,” the realtor adds, noting it is akin to a hobbit house.
In addition to mortgage costs, there’s also a marina moorage fee of about $1,400 a month. Pets are okay, but kids are not at the 566 sq.-foot home.
Anyone interested in the float home is asked to make an appointment and advised not to go on the property without a realtor present. That cautionary advice may or may not be given because of the possible unannounced appearance of the wizard Gandalf; or the possibly ribald parties that may occur with the unexpected arrivals of the 13 dwarfs as they return to Middle earth.
