Vancouver Police announced Monday (Jan. 23) that a man facing multiple charges stemming from an incident in downtown convenience store is back in police custody after a province-wide warrant was issued for his apprehension.

Fario Mabanza failed to show up for a court appearance related to the Jan. 8 assault case. He's alleged to have thrown hot soup on a woman working at the store when she tried to stop him from allegedly shoplifting.

A B.C.-wide warrant was issued for his arrest Jan. 16.

A VPD officer located Mabanza, 27, downtown on Saturday night while responding to reports of suspicious people trespassing in a parkade on Richards Street.

Mabanza was subsequently returned to jail.
