For the third year firefighters from the region will be climbing stairs at the Ovintiv Events Centre to recognize men and women who sacrificed their lives during the events of 9/11.
Saturday, September 10, at 2pm will see members of the DC and PC fire departments, as well as the DC firefighters charitable society will hit the flights.
Pouce Coupe Fire Department member Ryan Kirkham is the co-founder of the 9/11 Tribute Climb.
“This is a way that we can honor and remember the sacrifice of the brave, and selfless 343 firefighters – it’s really powerful being able to participate in such an important event for the third year running and at the same time giving back to our community.”
This year organizers have chosen the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation as the beneficiary of donations received in honour of the climb. Donations can be made online at the Ovintiv Events Centre website, dropped off at the Tiger Box Office at the Ovintiv Events Centre or in person the day of the Climb.
For the first time ever, this event will be open to the public. Bring the family down to see first responder's vehicles up close, try on some of the firefighter's gear and test your strength and endurance all while cheering on our local firefighters as they climb.
“The Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation (DCDHF) is honored to be chosen as the recipient of the funds raised during the 3rd Annual 9/11 Stair Climb. It means so much that the Dawson Creek and Pouce Coupe Fire Department have chosen the DCDHF and that they are so dedicated to keeping the funds raised going to a local charity,” says DCDHF Manager of Fundraising and Events Alicia Michetti.
Doors open at 1:00 p.m. with the climb beginning at 2:00 p.m. Please consider donating the Dawson Creek and District Hospital Foundation as a way to support those participating in the climb.
“Our ability to purchase life saving equipment for The Dawson Creek and District Hospital as well as Rotary Manor relies heavily on the support of others. All funds raised during this event will be used to do a just that; purchase from our Northern Health Wish List which currently has approx. 40 items on it with a grand total of over $600,000,” adds Michetti.
Donations can be made until September 30 online at www.tigerboxofficeplus.ca, by phone at 250-782-7443 and in person at the Tiger Box Office Plus locations at the Ovintiv Events Centre in Dawson Creek.
