DELTA, B.C. — Police in Delta, B.C., say a woman has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to drive a car carrying two young children into the Fraser River last month.

Delta police say officers had responded to an incident on Nov. 29 on River Road where they found a car stuck on the foreshore of the river.

A photo provided by police shows a white SUV surrounded by reeds, and police say the vehicle wasn't in the water.

Delta firefighters and bystanders rescued the driver and the children, who were taken to hospital.

Police say the woman has now been charged with two counts of attempted murder and remains in custody.

Police say they can't share further information about the driver's identity and a publication ban is in place to protect the children's identity.
