CALGARY — Calgary Flames captain Mikael Backlund will be out on a week-to-week basis with an upper-body injury, the NHL team said Friday.
Backlund was hurt in the first period of a 4-3 shootout loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday night.
The 35-year-old Swede has 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 64 games this season.
The Flames recalled forward Dryden Hunt from the American Hockey League's Calgary Wranglers before the Flames' home game against the Colorado Avalanche on Friday night.
Calgary entered play tied with Vancouver for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference standings. The Flames had a game in hand on the idle Canucks.
Hunt, 28, has 48 points (15-33) over 48 games with the AHL club this season.
